HOW TO CAD: Fusion 360 CAD Beginner Tutorial
Просмотров 23 тыс.2 года назад
In this video I show you how to get started with CAD design in Fusion 360! I have been using Fusion for more than 5 years, and out of all the CAD packages I've tried it's the one I like most and the one I've stuck with. In this video we'll make a simple object: a lego brick, but the concepts I show in this video can be applied to much more complicated projects and will provide a really nice fou...

CNC Knifemaking: Making a new Fixture!

At the end of 2020 I wanted to finally get caught up with all my backorders, and part of the solution for doing that was to get both of my CNC mills running and making blades! However to machine a complete blade on a CNC mill you need to make some specialized fixtures. In this video I show the complete process for updating my fixture design and machining a new fixture! Hope you guys enjoy the v...

Restoring a 24 year old CNC machine...
Просмотров 149 тыс.3 года назад
I spent 120 hours restoring a 1996 Fadal VMC15, a compact vertical machining center (CNC) so that I can use it to make my knives! This machine features a full enclosure and a larger tool-changer than my previous machine, so it is a nice addition! The only problem: the machine had been used to machine Graphite for its entire life which meant that clean-up was a huge job! In this video I document...

Fadal VMC-10 CNC Cutting Demo

I've had a lot of people email me asking whether they should look at buying a Fadal for their own workshops... A common question is whether or not the older Fadals can deal with modern 3D contouring and high speed machining toolpaths. This video shows my Fadal VMC10 ripping up some tool steel using a variety of tools and toolpaths, including adaptive roughing, helical boring, 3D contouring and ...

Fadal CNC Mill (VMC-10) Rebuild - The Saga Continues!
Просмотров 44 тыс.6 лет назад
Earlier this year I did a full rebuild of my 1994 Fadal VMC-10, and I filmed the process! My previous 'rebuild' of this machine was more about replacing worn out bits and pieces and a lot of 'remedial maintenance'. The rebuild was done because I am starting to get into hard-milling, which requires a machine in good condition! To get the machine back into 'factory spec' I rebuilt every axis and ...

Do you mind if I ask? I use a similar system with Diamond stones. I found that when I followed the method you showed, I tend to get less toothy edges because by removing all of the previous scratches, the finer stones remove most of the teeth. I use this almost exclusively on kitchen knives, and now I tend to do saw strokes with coarse stone, then alternating push strokes with the same stone (to remove any burr), and then gentle alternating push strokes with a super fine stone, to help clean up the apex. I find that this seems to leave better serrations for a toothier edge that holds up longer against use on foods/cutting board. I find that when I pass through all the higher grit stones for a super clean edge, I just don’t get much bite in the blade after a while as the super microscopic teeth just get worn down. My coarse Diamond stone is about 220mesh and my extra fine is 1200mesh. Thoughts? I’m always open to finding a flaw in my Methods.

So you still run the original controller / software with it and drip feed it? Or did you put another controller into it? I'm in progress of fixing a 20 year old Mitsubishi based CNC, I think about changing them to LinuxCNC as soon as possible.

not sure where you got your dlc done because ceracoat is nowhere near dlc dlc is hundreds of times more corrosive resistant than ceracoat

    • @GoughCustom
      @GoughCustom 2 месяца назад

The coating itself is very corrosion resistant yes, however it's also porous to some extent and these blades were not stainless. So it's not the DLC that's corroding, it's the steel underneath.

I find that when I do a full flat grind, when I file the second side, there’s too much flex in the blade for my file to engage with enough pressure. The blade bends and twists because the finished side doesn’t touch the shelf, so I cannot file the opposite side…

DUDE! That's incredible. I utterly loved it when it turns out you used your own jig on a shop grinder with custom CBN wheels. And CBN wood strop is the best. I have long decided my dream sharpening supplies would be custom CBN, and that wood strops are the most precise. The level of precision from start to finish on these is outstanding.
